Mosaic Series

“Color – luscious, vibrant, bright & bold. Working in mosaics, I can expand my artistic repertoire with reflective and iridescent surfaces, new textures and do it on grander scales suitable for outdoors or indoors. Martin adds, "Mosaics are the most durable art form and can withstand rain, wind, heat and cold. They are easy to maintain and clean and don’t fade.”

Martin uses glass, tile, mirror, beads, wire, semi precious stone, ceramic pieces and found objects to bring her mosaics to life. Many clients have treasures from their travels that they want to incorporate into their mosaic projects. Martin has finished several mosaics for wall niches, kitchen and bar backsplashes as well as various outdoor applications. Her commission work mosaics and murals are in private collections in Austin. Her paintings have patrons worldwide. Since 2005 Martin has been concentrating on commission work. “I get such satisfaction working with clients to produce something unique for their home or office environment… something that brings beauty and joy and is very personal. Many clients want a fine art piece that reminds them of their travels and vacations. Something that really inspires them each time they look at the piece.”

Martin has been working since 2008 to produce mosaics for galleries, shows and patrons. Creating mosaics takes time. Beginning with the design phase, preparing the substrate, deciding on the final design and layout, choosing different cuts, color and texture to use in each area of the piece. The next stage is hand cutting all the pieces to be used and then gluing them down, one at a time! Changing anything at this stage is almost impossible. Grouting requires taping off areas, getting the piece completely covered in mud and then cleaning each tile off - back to its sparkling state. Photographing each piece, inventorying it and packing it; only then is it ready it's new home!

Martin has also created mirror designs – each one unique and ready for gift giving. Call 512.656 4796 to see if the one you like is still available.
